About

Arader Books is the rare book department of Arader (pron. uh-RAY-derr) Galleries, housed principally at our beaux-arts townhouse at 1016 Madison Avenue in New York City (as well as our original location at 29 E. 72nd St.). Founded by W. Graham Arader III, Arader has locations in New York, Philadelphia (Ms. Lori Cohen), King of Prussia (Ms. Alicia Pascale and Ms. Becky Coer) and St. Helena, CA (Ms. Josephine Arader).

Arader Galleries has four main areas of dealing: natural history watercolors (Ms. Alison Petretti, curator), prints, maps and rare books.

The book department is run by Jonah Rosenberg (D.Phil, Oxon.). He has a decade of experience in the trade and a background in art history, having taught for the last fifteen years. As a bookseller, he is keen to educate his clients and to learn in turn from their bibliomania. A Classicist by training (A.B. Brown University in Classics: Greek and Latin (with Honors); D.Phil St John's College, Oxford in Classical Archaeology), Jonah has a particular interest in Greek art and text, and in fine printing of Greek and Latin literature. He is a member of the Grolier Club, and president of the New York Map Society.

Ms. Gillian Murdock, B.A. Scripps College in History (with Honors), is senior cataloguer. Gillian joined Arader Books following her work at The Claremont Colleges Library Special Collection. She has an interest in comparative religious philosophy and a particular fondness for incunabula, vellum bound volumes, and early modern woodcuts.

Arader Galleries is open Monday–Saturday, 10–6; please note that Dr. Rosenberg works Tuesday–Saturday, and Ms. Murdock Monday–Friday. We warmly welcome visitors without an appointment, but if you wish to see a particular book or set of books, kindly write in advance so that they can be ready for you.
